EAST LIVERPOOL Hearing set for patrolman accused of child sex crime

EAST LIVERPOOL -- A court hearing is set next month for a city police officer accused of a misdemeanor sex crime involving a teen-age girl.
Patrolman Eric Boggs, 33, a seven-year city police veteran, was arrested on a warrant Thursday morning and agreed to be extradited to West Virginia without demanding a hearing.
Boggs is charged by the Hancock County Sheriff's Department with sexual abuse. Hancock County is across the Ohio River from Columbiana County.
According to Michael White, chief deputy with the Hancock County Sheriff's Department, Boggs is accused of fondling a girl under the age of 15 at a drive-in movie theater near Chester, W.Va., on July 29.
White was uncertain of the girl's age.
After being arrested, Boggs appeared before Magistrate Betty Bauer in New Cumberland, W.Va., who set a hearing for 9 a.m. Oct. 5. Boggs is free on $2,000 bond.
In a written statement, Michael McVay, East Liverpool police chief, stated that Boggs was placed on administrative leave Aug. 29.
Boggs was most recently assigned to the Columbiana County Drug Task Force.
