Notebook: Chaney is looking to bounce back from consecutive losses to Uniontown Lake (13-6) and Boardman (42-27) after a season-opening win over Fitch (19-13). The Cowboys' pass defense was unable to stop Boardman quarterback Tom Zetts, who threw for three touchdowns. The Cowboys got a strong rushing performance from senior running back Eddie McElroy who rushed for more than 200 yards and three TDs. Campbell has won back-to-back games over Struthers (10-7) and Niles (28-12) after dropping the opener to Howland (41-23). Campbell unleashed a solid ground attack against Niles as Joe Jackson gained 120 yards in 20 carries and Tim Davis contributed 102 yards in 20 tries. George Malactaris kicked three field goals of 25, 25 and 20 yards.

NEWTON FALLS (3-0) vs. HUBBARD (3-0)

Notebook: The first week of the Trumbull Athletic Conference season offers a battle of unbeatens. Newton Falls controlled the ground game in its 44-12 victory over Crestview last week. The Tigers had 388 rushing yards, led by junior TB Matt Gillespie, who ran for touchdowns of 57, 6 and 69 yards. He finished with 213 yards on 20 carries. Senior QB Tom Nemet added rushing TDs of 17 and 27 yards. Newton Falls lost its season opener to Warren JFK 26-0 but was awarded the victory when the Eagles forfeited for use of an ineligible player. Since its season-opening win over defending Division V state champion Bedford Chanel, Hubbard has rolled. The Eagles beat Struthers 21-6 last week, with Shaun Lane, a transfer from Wilson, keying the attack. Lane returned a kickoff 90 yards for a TD and added 110 yards rushing.
LAKEVIEW (1-2) VS. GIRARD (2-1)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. at Girard High.
Last meeting: Girard won last year's game, 15-14, when the Indians scored with 24 seconds remaining.Notebook: In a 35-14 loss to Howland, Lakeview senior QB Kevin Rigby completed 11 of 22 passes for 165 yards, including a 30-yard TD toss to senior WR David Costas, who had four catches for 78 yards. Lakeview, who lost to Canal Fulton Northwest (29-12) in the opener, must correct errors and execute better. Both Howland and Northwest are 3-0. Lakeview's win was 16-9 against Niles (0-3). Three Bulldogs who have shown improvement since week one are FBs Matt Nero and Kyle Irish and WR Jim McHale. All three share time at inside linebacker. For Girard, QB Matt Zuppo completed 10 of 23 passes for 165 yards and finished with all but 36 of the team's 308 yards. A conversion toss to Adam Grdinich accounted for the winning points in the final two minutes. Protecting Zuppo are: C Jake Racick; Gs Van Hazen & amp; Todd Prodnick and Ts Paul Cole & amp; Andy Stevens. Hazen filled in for G Allen Gordon who was hurt last week. Gordon should be back this week. Girard is averaging, approximately, 200 yards passing and 100 rushing. Of the 13 times the teams have played, Girard has won eight and Lakeview five.
