Couple escapes injuryafter small-plane crash
HARTFORD -- A husband and wife walked away unharmed after a piece of the landing gear on their plane broke off while taxiing down the runway.
The couple were in their two-seat experimental tail dragger plane about 6:15 p.m. Saturday on a private runway off state Route 7 when the sun got in the eyes of the male pilot, said Hartford Township Fire Chief Brian T. Hughes.
The plane hit a rut, and a part of the landing gear broke off, causing the plane to turn off the runway.
The couple's names were not being released.
"It could have been a lot worse, but they walked away," Hughes said.
