LISBON Trial of day-care operator in infant's death is delayed

LISBON -- The Oct. 7 trial set for a former Wellsville day-care operator has been postponed.
Prosecutors and defense lawyers for Billie Jo Weaver, 35, now of Marion, met privately Friday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.
Defense Atty. Dave Powers of East Palestine said before the conference that he would seek postponement to allow a medical expert to review the autopsy findings in the case.
After the private meeting among attorneys, assistant county Prosecutor Tim McNicol said the delay had been approved by the court and that a new trial date has yet to be set.
Weaver is charged with involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony, in the Aug. 14 death of 4-month-old Jareden Rawson of Wellsville.
Authorities have said without elaborating that Weaver handled Jareden in a manner that fatally injured him.
The infant was one of the children Weaver cared for as part of the day-care operation she ran from her home.
Her day-care license has been revoked. She is free on a $25,000 cash or surety bond.
If convicted, she faces a 10-year maximum prison sentence.
