YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State will open the season at the Spiked Shoe Invitational Saturday at Penn State University.
Veterans back for the Penguins are co-captains Paul Robinette and Kurt Michaelis and Will Edwards.
The women's co-captains are Lindsay Frontz and Andrea Bardy and they will be joined by Horizon League newcomer of the year Emily Schnitkey.

Austintown boycatches home run
AUSTINTOWN -- Jonathon Ullery, 9, caught Jim Thome's 40th home run as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Detroit Tigers 2-1 Aug. 28.
Thome hit another home run in the Indians' victory.
Ullery and his family was seated in section 107.
Lipps at mallfor card show
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Former Pittsburgh Steeler Louis Lipps will visit the Shenango Valley Mall on Saturday as part of a sports card and collectible show.
Lipps will be available to meet with fans and sign autographs from 4-6 p.m. in the mall's center court.
Poland HOFceremony tonight
POLAND -- Five new inductees into the Poland High School Hall Of Fame will be introduced during tonight's football game against Wilson.
Jack Holt, a 1949 graduate, will be inducted for his achievements in basketball and track along with Don Weyer (1952, football, basketball, track); Roger Dyer (1965, basketball); Lorie Ceremuga (1978, basketball, softball, track) and Dr. Michael Repasky (1989, football, basketball, baseball).

MetroStars win 3-1
DALLAS -- Rodrigo Faria scored two goals in the second half as the New York-New Jersey MetroStars beat the Dallas Burn 3-1 Thursday night.
Clint Mathis also scored for the MetroStars. Ronald Cerritos scored for Dallas.
Arrest made
MINNEAPOLIS -- A man was charged with murder in the shooting death of a University of Minnesota football player last weekend.
Brandon Hall, 19, died early Sunday morning after he was shot once through the heart. Just hours before, he had played his first game for the Golden Gophers, who defeated Southwest Texas State 42-0.
Jermaine Octavious Stansberry, 28, of Minneapolis, was charged with second-degree murder. He also was charged with aggravated robbery and felony possession of a firearm.
Oregon St. routs Temple
PHILADELPHIA -- Derek Anderson threw for 286 yards and four touchdowns, including two to James Newson, to lead Oregon State over Temple 35-3 on Thursday night in the first meeting between the schools.
Steven Jackson ran for 117 yards on 25 carries, Newson had nine catches for 77 yards and Mitch Meeuwsen had two interceptions for the Beavers (2-0).
Man pleads guilty
NEW YORK -- Albrecht Stromeyer, 34, entered a guilty plea to fourth-degree stalking -- a misdemeanor -- of leading women's player Serena Williams in Criminal Court in Queens, and was discharged.
Lewis will give uptitle not to fight
NEW YORK -- Lennox Lewis will give up one of his heavyweight titles rather than fight mandatory contender Chris Byrd, claiming that Byrd offers him no great challenge and that no one wants to see the fight anyway.
Stewart wins truck race at Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. -- Tony Stewart picked track position over new tires with 35 laps to go Thursday night, taking the lead and holding off Kevin Harvick to win the Virginia Is For Lovers 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race.
Stewart, the Winston Cup star making only his second start in the series, jumped from sixth to the lead when Harvick and the other four lead drivers pitted for tires under a caution with 35 laps to go.
Racing on tires he took on lap 96, Stewart pulled away in his Andy Petree-owned Chevy and held on to win by 0.259 seconds.
