LISBON -- A Butler Township man escaped serious injury when his tractor-trailer overturned on U.S. 30 in Hanover Township, forcing the closing of the highway. Robert McDonald, 48, of Valley Road was treated Thursday at Salem Community Hospital after the 12:30 p.m. crash. An Ohio Department of Transportation spokeswoman said U.S. 30 east of Hanoverton was closed about two hours. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said McDonald was driving west on U.S. 30 when he lost control on a curve and went off the right side of the road. The patrol said a steel coil came off the trailer and the tractor-trailer overturned. Hanover Township firefighters used the Jaws of Life equipment to cut McDonald from the truck cab, the patrol said. McDonald was cited for failure to control, the patrol said.
Break-in at drive-in
SALEM -- A break-in was reported at the Frost Top drive-in at 1001 W. State St. in Perry Township. Township police said it was reported Wednesday that someone entered the business through a back door and removed the cash register, which later was found along Georgetown Road in Perry Township. A small amount of change was taken, police said.
Tribute set for 9/11at Quaker Steak & amp; Lube
SHARON, Pa. -- The Quaker Steak & amp; Lube along with the Sharon fire and police departments will host a tribute to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001. The program will begin at 8:40 p.m. at the Quaker Steak & amp; Lube parking lot. Presentation of the color guard will be at 8:45 p.m. and then the pledge of allegiance by Sharon police and firefighters. The national anthem will be played at 9 p.m. and then a moment of silence at 9:08 p.m. Immediately after the moment of silence, two searchlights will be pointed to the sky as a last tribute.
Man sought in robbery;police release photo
LIBERTY -- Township police and the FBI have released an enhanced photograph of the man being sought in the robbery of Key Bank on Belmont Ave. in Liberty Aug. 30. The suspect is of medium build, 175 to 200 pounds and has a scarred face. He gave a teller a note that said he had a weapon.
Prisoner escapes, isrecaptured by police
SHARON, Pa. -- A prisoner serving time for burglary escaped, for the second time in less than a week, but was recaptured. Police said Maurice L. Atwood, 35, had been arrested Sunday on escape charges after leaving a state prison halfway house. Authorities said they were taking him back to the police station after a preliminary hearing when he ran off Thursday. They found him not far from the police station in a wooded area off Ohio Street at 4:30 p.m. Atwood was arraigned on a charge of escape before District Justice James McMahon. His bond was set at $100,000, and he was in Mercer County Jail this morning.
Body identified
YOUNGSTOWN -- The body found in the covered cargo bed of a pickup truck on Sept. 1 at Bob O's Towing on Logan Avenue has been identified as Terrence M. Marsh, 46, of Westview Drive, Hubbard, said Mahoning County Coroner David M. Kennedy. Marsh had been reported missing Aug. 30, reports show.
