YOUNGSTOWN -- David and Joyce Ornelas of Lowellville filed a claim in the Ohio Lottery's Youngstown Regional office Monday afternoon. The couple won the top $100,000 prize in last Saturday's "Buckeye 5" drawing.
After 30.5-percent tax deductions, they will receive a check for $69,500 in the next four to six weeks.
The winners used the auto lotto feature that gave them the combination, 2-5-31-36-37.
Tic Toc Food Mart #203, 6888 McCartney Road in Lowellville, receives a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
HEAP helps Ohioans
YOUNGSTOWN -- Under the Home Energy Assistance Program, the state is helping low-income Ohioans buy fans or air conditioners and pay electric bills for them where such appliances are medically necessary.
The program is being administered locally by the Youngstown Area Community Action Council, 101 Federal Plaza East, (330) 747-7921.
Food banks to take partin summer program
YOUNGSTOWN -- Pupils who receive free and reduced-price school meals can continue to eat nutritious meals after schools close for summer vacation through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Summer Food Service Program.
The Second Harvest Foodbank of the Mahoning Valley and other food banks and food rescue organizations are working with the USDA's Food and Nutrition Service to promoted National Hunger Awareness Day on Wednesday to help increase participation in the summer food service program.
In Youngstown, families who visit member agencies of the Second Harvest Foodbank will receive information on where their children can participate in the free meals program.

Local MRDD boardreceives accreditation
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities has received a two-year accreditation from the Ohio Department of MRDD.
Larry Duck, Mahoning County MRDD superintendent, and board member John Syvanych received the certificate May 28 in a ceremony in Columbus.
A comprehensive state review was conducted Nov. 5-8, 2001, when a team of state surveyors checked how the county board conducts background checks on new employees.
They also verified that all employees are registered, licensed or certified; that there exists a process to resolve complaints; and that all services and supports are offered to all people.
The accreditation covers the period of June 1, 2002, through May 31, 2004.
