WARREN -- A 20-year-old Newton Falls man is being held in the shooting death this week of a 66-year-old man.
Police were to file aggravated murder charges against Chad Karpenko this morning.
Karpenko was arrested Wednesday afternoon. Harvey Hill of 596 Hillsdale Northwest was shot to death Tuesday morning, police said.
Karpenko was taken to the city police station for questioning and was being held today in the Trumbull County jail.
According to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, Karpenko was paroled from prison March 11 after serving about three years on a burglary conviction.
Police Chief John Mandopoulos said Hill was shot by someone who broke into his home.
Victim found
Police found Hill about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. He was taken by ambulance to Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital, where he died in the emergency room.
Police declined to say how many times Hill was shot.
The home was entered through a rear window. Police do not know if anything was taken.
Mandopoulos said this is the first homicide in memory in the city's Hillsdale area.
It's the city's third homicide of the year.
