ENON VALLEY, PA. Chase ends in arrest
A state police trooper was injured in the chase.
ENON VALLEY, Pa. -- Police said a New Castle man led them on a 45-minute high-speed chase through three counties in two states.
Fred B. Cook Jr., 25, was in the Beaver County Jail this morning accused of aggravated assault and fleeing and eluding police. The amount of his bail was not available.
State police said Little Beaver police in Lawrence County spotted Cook driving a truck, suspected of being stolen, at 6:15 p.m. Thursday.
Little Beaver police attempted to stop the truck, and a chase began that went through Little Beaver and Darlington townships and into Ohio, they said.
State police said Ohio State Highway Patrol cars blocked the road and forced the truck back into Pennsylvania, to Route 51 in Beaver County.
Police said the truck forced many vehicles off the road and crashed into several others before entering a church parking lot at Darlington Road and Steffan Hill in Patterson Township.
A state trooper blocked the exit with his car, and the truck rammed the patrol car several times, injuring the officer, police said. The truck also rammed another state police vehicle before Cook was arrested.
It's unclear whether Cook faces additional charges in Lawrence County.
Sgt. Gary Dolak of the Lisbon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said this morning the troopers placed stop sticks on state Route 14. The devices are designed to flatten tires.
Dolak said the truck struck the sticks, blowing a tire. Then the truck went back into Pennsylvania.
Dolak said he doesn't believe the truck struck any patrol cars of the Lisbon post, and he doesn't anticipate the post will file any charges.
