AKRON Traficant responds to a questionnaire

The expelled congressman's answers were scrawled in bold, all-caps print.
AKRON (AP) -- Former U.S. Rep. James A. Traficant Jr., running for re-election to his old seat from a prison cell, has responded to a newspaper's questionnaire to candidates.
When asked to name three things for which he would be held accountable to voters, he responded: "My record speaks for itself."
The Akron Beacon Journal reported today that Traficant's responses were scrawled in bold, all-caps print.
Traficant, a Democrat from Youngstown, was expelled from the House on July 24 after he was convicted in federal court of racketeering, bribery and tax evasion.
He is serving an eight-year prison sentence at the minimum-security Allenwood federal prison in White Deer, Pa. A volunteer campaign staff is helping him run as an independent in the heavily Democratic 17th District.
The district was redrawn after the last election and stretches from his traditional base in the Mahoning Valley to Akron.
His opponents, Democratic state Sen. Tim Ryan and Republican state Rep. Ann Womer Benjamin, also responded to the newspaper's questions.
Other responses
When asked to rank Ohio among the 50 states in 20 years, Traficant wrote: "I'm not Carnac," referring to Johnny Carson's character Carnac the Magnificent.
Traficant said he would vote to send troops to Iraq "only after inspector confirmation." When he was asked to prioritize a list of eight ways to improve Ohio, he put stars next to "improving K-12 education" and "lower taxes."
He was asked if any members of his immediate family left Ohio in the last 30 years and why. Traficant has left Ohio for incarceration. His answer: "Have not left!"
He was asked if there was one issue on which he would stake his political career and what would that be. He drew an "X" through the question three times.
In a low-budget campaign television ad filmed the day before he received his sentence, Traficant asks voters to re-elect him to show they don't fear their government. His campaign started airing ads this week.
