DIVISION I
Who: Fitch (20-4) vs. Mentor (19-7).
Game time: 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Hudson High School.
Other semifinal: Wooster (16-10) vs. Solon (19-6).
Regional final: 2 p.m. Saturday at Hudson.
Notebook: Fitch beat Ellet and Stow to advance to last week's district final and the Falcons played their best match of the season, rallying to defeat Boardman in three sets. Fitch, which beat Mentor in straight sets in last year's regional semifinals, returns four starters from last year's state tournament team -- Katie McDermott, Rachel Terzak, Maggie Case and Stacie Mang. Fitch also qualified for the state tournament in 1999. Mentor beat Euclid, Cleveland Glenville, Geneva and Painesville Riverside to advance to win the district title. Mentor's top player is 6-6 sophomore Megan Skouby.
DIVISION II
Who: Hubbard (26-0) vs. Mentor Lake Catholic (24-1).
Game time: 8 p.m. Wednesday at Stow High School.
Other semifinal: Rocky River (21-5) vs. Chagrin Falls Kenston (21-4).
Regional final: 2 p.m. Saturday at Stow.
Notebook: Hubbard beat Struthers, Niles, Southeast and Salem to win its third straight district title. The Eagles have lost to Mentor Lake Catholic the past two years, but this may be the team that finally makes it to the state tournament. Hubbard is led by seniors Katy Jo Mroski, who will play at Indiana next fall, Nicole Pringle and Monika Rajkovicova. Mroski is the first area player to earn a scholarship to a Big Ten school. Mentor Lake Catholic beat Conneaut, Jefferson Area and Notre Dame Cathedral Latin to advance to regional play.
DIVISION III
Who: Girard (23-3) vs. Streetsboro (16-10)
Game time: 8 p.m. Thursday at Barberton High School.
Other semifinal: Smithville (23-2) vs. Rocky River Lutheran West (23-1)
Regional final: 2 p.m. Saturday at Barberton.
Notebook: Streetsboro was unseeded entering the sectional tournament, but caught fire, defeating East Palestine, Crestview, South Range and Springfield. Girard, the No. 1 seed, cruised through the tournament by defeating Gates Mills Hawken, Middlefield Cardinal, Mathews and Burton Berkshire -- all in straight sets. The Indians are led by senior Tealle Hunkus, who will play at Duke next fall.
DIVISION IV
Who: Wellsville (24-2) vs. Reedsville Eastern (19-3).
Game time: 6:30 Wednesday at Lancaster High School.
Other semifinal: South Webster (16-7) vs. Centerburg (25-1).
Regional final: 2 p.m. Saturday at Lancaster.
Notebook: Wellsville, the No. 1 seed in the sectional tournament, did not drop a set in its first three matches, but needed three sets to get past Berlin Hiland for the district title. Reedsville Eastern beat Beaver Eastern for the district crown.
