LISBON -- Work is under way to repair leaks in the village water system.
Village Administrator Kevin Brooks told village council at its meeting Monday that seven waterline breaks were found. Two of the main breaks have already been repaired, reducing water loss by 150,000 gallons a day.
He noted the other repairs are expected to be completed by next week.
Brooks noted criticism had been leveled at the village for spending $2,850 to hire Pipeline Leak Detection of Westerville to find the leaks rather than doing the work with village employees. Brooks said the cost had been more than recovered because of speed and accuracy of the company's work, noting the leaks were & quot;pinpointed within inches. & quot;

In a related matter, Brooks said the company hired to find leaks in the village-owned pool has presented its report. American Leak Detection of Stow said the leaks were results of structural damage of the pool's sidewalls. Brooks noted that problem will be repaired before the pool is used next season
In other matters, council was reminded that there will be two village issues on the Nov. 5 ballot, a cemetery levy and the electricity question. Village residents are being asked if they wish to have council negotiate electric rates with power companies to get lower electric rates for residents.
Mayor Jeff Snyder noted the village could likely get the best rate because of the volume of electricity needed to serve the entire village. Residents would not be required to participate in the village program, Snyder said. Other municipalities which have made these kind of arrangements have realized savings for residential customers of about 4 percent and 6 percent for business customers, Snyder said.
