County court to pick new board member

MERCER, Pa. -- The Mercer County Court of Common Pleas will pick the person to fill a vacant seat on the West Middlesex Area School Board.
Director Gary Koncar resigned last month, and the eight remaining board members have been unable to agree on a successor who will serve the remaining 13 months of his term.
The board met Oct. 14 and interviewed five candidates but couldn't reach a decision.
They voted instead to turn the matter over to the courts, and a court petition filed by 10 school district residents last week also asked the court to take over the selection process.
Pennsylvania law requires school boards to fill vacancies in 30 days.
Peter Morin, court administrator, said interested parties should send a letter of interest and a brief resume to his office by 4 p.m. Thursday.
The three judges will interview candidates starting around noon Friday and make their appointment that same day, Morin said.
The court had received four letters of interest as of this morning, he noted.
Applications can be delivered by hand, mail or by fax, Morin said. The fax number is (724) 662-0620.
