YOUNGSTOWN -- Brandon Holt and his girlfriend, Patreese Hankins, both of Columbus, were in stable condition today at St. Elizabeth Health Center after being shot Sunday afternoon on the South Side. Holt, 28, told police that he and his girlfriend had followed a woman who was supposed to get them some "weed," reports show. They drove to Delason Avenue near Bellview Avenue, pulled in front of the woman's car, then were hit by gunfire from a third car that sped by.
Campbell man killed
YOUNGSTOWN -- A one-car crash on the Madison Avenue expressway just before 4 a.m. Sunday killed a Campbell man, police said. The victim's name was not immediately available. The victim's car hit a guardrail then a utility pole at the U.S. Route 422 overpass a quarter-mile before the Crescent Street exit ramp, police said. The impact of the crash cut the car, a 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora, in half and ejected the driver, police said.
Restaurant robbery
YOUNGSTOWN -- When the manager of Buffalo Wild Wings arrived for work at 11:05 a.m. Sunday, he found two employees in the cooler, where they'd been sent during a robbery. One of the employees told police that a man in his 30s wearing a black do-rag and black baseball cap entered the restaurant on Federal Plaza West, went behind the counter, then ordered them into the cooler. A substantial amount of cash was taken, reports show.
Victimized in scam
HUBBARD -- Police from Hubbard and Liberty are investigating the theft of $1,000 from an East Park Avenue woman. The 82-year-old victim told police she was approached by two women as she entered her vehicle Friday afternoon at Liberty Plaza. They told the victim they had found $60,000 and were willing to split it with her but needed $1,000 from her upfront to pay an attorney to trace the serial numbers on the money. The victim drove the women to Metropolitan Bank, where she withdrew the money and gave it to them. She told police she was to wait in a nearby parking lot while the women went to Taco Bell on Belmont Avenue. When they had not returned after an hour, she contacted Hubbard police.
Report of intimidation
HUBBARD -- Robert Paterniti, director of public safety, called police Friday morning to tell them a woman known to him had called and tried to intimidate him in his duties. No other details were available this morning.
Archery, gun meetings
VIENNA -- The Trumbull County 4-H Shooting Sports Pioneers will have organizational meetings at Friday and Nov. 15 at Vienna Fish and Game Club, state Route 193, across from Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. Times both days are 5 p.m. for archery and 6:30 for firearms. Regular meetings are the first and third Fridays of each month, January through May. Children 9 through 18 and their parents are invited. The 4-H club emphasizes safe and responsible use of firearms and archery equipment, development of self-esteem, ethical behavior and strengthening families through lifelong recreational activities. Tax forum
YOUNGSTOWN -- Buckeye Eyes and Ears Blockwatch will have Councilman John Nittoli, D-7th, and representatives from Mahoning County and the Youngstown police and fire departments discuss the proposed half-percent sales tax and half-percent city income tax on the Nov. 5 ballot. A question-and-answer session will follow the meeting, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Word of Grace Church, 2724 Mount Vernon Ave. Refreshments will be served.
