Lodge faces penalty for violations
HUBBARD -- The Marconi Lodge, a local club whose president is the city streets superintendent, has admitted gambing-related violations.
The Ohio Liquor Control Commission said Friday the lodge must either pay $500 or take a five-day suspension of operations for allowing gambling and having tip tickets and 50-50 drawings.
Jerome R. Campana, street department superintendent, is identified in liquor control records as an owner.
The Department of Liquor Control said the club at 802 N. Main St. was permitted to have gambling because the proceeds were donated to a charity, the Goal Liners, a booster club for John F. Kennedy High School in Warren. The boosters complained to the state that it was no longer receiving money from the Marconi, resulting in agents' raiding the club.
As of late, signs supporting Hubbard High School football have been displayed on the front of the Marconi building.
This is the second gambling-related citation at the club since 1997.
