SHARON Winner grand prize will be mink coat
There's no giveaway this weekend. It's been moved to Nov. 2.
SHARON, Pa. -- The grand prize in the final Winner cash giveaway in downtown Sharon won't be cash at all. It's a full-length mink coat.
And it won't be given away this Saturday.
Businessman James E. Winner Jr. has moved the promotion's finale to Nov. 2.
He's been giving away cash and discount coupons that can be used at his store each Saturday this month.
The final version has been deemed "Let's Make a Deal."
A table will be set up outside The Winner store at 32 W. State St. from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 2, and the first 500 adults (18 and older) who stop at the table will get to pick one key from a box of assorted keys. Only 500 keys will be distributed.
At 12:30 p.m., the key holders will get a chance to use their key to open a Club vehicle anti-theft device manufactured and sold by Winner.
At least five of the keys will open this particular Club.
People holding the keys that open the Club will be given a ticket for a chance to win in a drawing for the mink coat.
'Let's Make a Deal'
Once all 500 keys have been tested, those with the lucky tickets get to play "Let's Make a Deal."
They can choose to stay in the coat drawing or they can trade their ticket in for a "mystery envelope" containing some cash.
When the deals are done, the ticket picked from the drawing will be the grand-prize winner.
The goal of the monthlong promotion has been to get people into the downtown business district.
Mystery shoppers will be in The Winner, the Winner Outlet and Winner Collectibles during the Nov. 2 event randomly handing out store coupons to shoppers.
The giveaway began Oct. 6 with Winner shooting 500 $2 bills and store coupons off the roof of the store. Several people were injured in the resulting scramble for cash that attracted between 500 and 600 people.
The giveaway was altered in later weeks to make the event more controlled and orderly.
