YOUNGSTOWN -- Police arrested a 40-year-old East Side woman after her husband told them he had seen her strike their 9-year-old son with a bed slat. The boy's two brothers said she also had hit them.
Juanita Graham of Kenneth Avenue faces three counts of misdemeanor domestic violence after her 7:30 p.m. Friday arrest, city police reports show.
Police said the 9-year-old boy had scratches on his neck. His 10-year-old brother had bruises on his left elbow, the left side of his eye and the back of his right thigh.
The 11-year-old boy had swelling on his upper left arm and rear right thigh. They also saw two broken bed slats in the home, police reports show.
The father said Graham was hitting the youngest boy because he had gotten in trouble at school.
Death investigated
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Coroner's Office is investigating the death of a 26-year-old man found lying on his back in his North Side home.
Officers found Damon Brown in the living room of the Delaware Avenue home at about 1:30 p.m. Friday, city police reports show.
The man's mother and sister told police he had slept in the living room overnight and that they knew of no medical problems. They said he had used heroin at times over the past five years, police reports show.
Police found a coffee table and centerpiece tipped over, several compact discs on the floor and a silver ring near Brown's hand.
No drugs or drug paraphernalia were found near the victim or in his bedroom or bathroom.
Felony charge for teen
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 13-year-old Hillman Middle School pupil was arrested on a felony charge of conveying a weapon in school after pulling out a knife during an argument.
An assistant principal told an officer that the teen was involved in a verbal altercation with another boy about 2 p.m. Friday when he showed the knife and made a threat, city police reports show.
