Howland defeats Struthers, posts 6th win,



HOWLAND -- The Howland High football team rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns Friday in a 34-14 Metro Athletic Conference victory over Struthers.
Tony Davis ran for 123 yards on 13 carries and one touchdown. Maurice Smith added 64 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns for Howland (6-3, 2-3), which is sixth this week in Division II, Region 5 computer ratings.
Struthers quarterback Tim Zetts was 14-of-32 for 179 yards, but he threw four interceptions. John Mansky had five catches for 76 yards for the Wildcats (4-5, 2-2).
Salem 40, Niles 27
NILES -- Grant Sevek of the Quakers (4-5, 2-3 MAC) scored touchdowns on runs of 3 and 5 yards.
Quarterback Landon Heath connected on 11-of-25 passes for 166 yards, including TD strikes of 11 yards to Lance Buckley and 53 to Zac Grey.
Buckley returned a punt 61 yards for a TD to give Salem a 6-0 lead.
The Red Dragons (1-8, 0-5) relied on their rushing offense as they accumulated 359 yards on 64 attempts.
Jared Sears gained 202 of that on 28 tries, which included TD runs 38, 30 and 7 yards.
His 38-yard TD run and a place kick by Brandon Rappich gave Niles its only lead, 7-6, in the first quarter.
Matt White of Niles gained 110 yards on 17 attempts and scored on a 1-yard run.
