Courthouse dedication to bring senator to Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN -- U.S. Sen. George V. Voinovich will make two public appearances here Tuesday.
At 10:30 a.m., he will attend the dedication of the Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, 10 E. Commerce St., which opened last month.
Voinovich sponsored pending legislation to name the building for senior Judge Nathaniel R. Jones of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, a prominent black Youngstown native.
At 2:45 p.m., Voinovich will visit the Youngstown Head Start facility at Oak Hill Renaissance Center, 345 Oak Hill Ave., where he will discuss with teachers bipartisan legislation he sponsored to improve Head Start and other early childhood education programs.
Besides Voinovich, other participants in the courthouse dedication will be Mayor George McKelvey; U.S. Bankruptcy Judge William T. Bodoh; Robert A.M. Stern, the building's architect; Andrew Leicester, the artist who created the metal sculpture in front of the building; and Stephen A. Perry, administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration, which oversaw the building's construction.
