OHIO Beeghly joins regents board



COLUMBUS -- For the first time in six years, a Mahoning Valley resident is serving on the Ohio Board of Regents.
Businessman Bruce R. Beeghly of Struthers was sworn in during the board's meeting Thursday. He was appointed to a nine-year term, beginning last month, by Gov. Bob Taft.
Beeghly, 60, is president of Altronic Inc., a Girard designer and manufacturer of electronic products sold worldwide. The company is the world's leading producer of ignition systems for stationary industrial engines.
Beeghly served on the Youngstown State University Board of Trustees from 1992 to 2001, acting as chairman in 1999 and 2000, and is a trustee of the YSU Foundation that oversees an endowment of more than $130 million.

He served as a member of the Ohio Board of Regents Higher Education Funding Commission and participated on a panel at the 2001 trustees conference.
He also was elected to two four-year terms on the Liberty Board of Education.
Beeghly serves as chairman of the Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way and on the board of directors of the Youngstown Incubator. He is a former member of the boards of National City Bank and Metropolitan Savings Bank and a former member and president of the board of the Youngstown Hearing & amp; Speech Center.
He earned a bachelor's degree from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
The last area resident to serve as a regent was Youngstown Atty. Paul Dutton, who was appointed by former Gov. Richard F. Celeste in 1987. He served until 1996.
