NILES -- There are no more tickets for the Oct. 30 trick-or-treat event at Cafaro Field.
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers have announced that all 2,500 tickets for their fourth annual Halloween event have been distributed.
The event is from 6 to 9 p.m.
Domestic violence
NILES -- A Fenton Street man is free on $5,000 bond awaiting a preliminary hearing Oct. 23 on two felony counts of domestic violence.
Jay E. Zell, 19, was arrested Wednesday night.
Police say he and an 18-year-old woman were arguing about 11:30 p.m. about playing the radio, when he hit her, bit her nose and choked her.
The woman's 17-year-old sister was hit when she tried to break up the fight, police said.
Zell did not enter a plea in Niles Municipal Court on Thursday, since the charges are felonies. He is free on $5,000 bond, and a preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 23.
Hubbard faces suit
HUBBARD -- A Hubbard man is suing the city and some of its officials in U.S. District Court in Youngstown, contending they selectively enforced a city parking ordinance against him, wrongly took his property and violated his constitutional rights.
Bernard Dumaire, of Drummond Avenue, who says the city took 10 of his vehicles, names as defendants acting Police Chief Ken Oiler, Officer William Fisher and city council.
The city dismissed the last of its prosecutions against Dumaire May 1, and Dumaire has successfully defended himself against similar prosecutions twice previously, the suit says.
The suit seeks a jury trial, $600,000 in damages, plus interest, court costs and attorney fees.
Suing Detroit casino
YOUNGSTOWN -- Willie Smith Sr. of Griffin Street, Newton Falls, is suing Motor City Casino of Detroit and the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
The lawsuit, filed this week in U.S. District Court, Youngstown, says Smith was illegally detained, questioned and searched by security personnel at the casino in October 2001.
He is asking for at least $200,000 in damages.
Facing drug charges
SHARON, Pa. -- Police arrested James E. Hill, 28, of Davis Street, Masury, on drug possession and other charges, saying he dropped a cloth bag containing suspected marijuana and ran from officers during an investigation of a domestic dispute on South Oakland Avenue on Wednesday.
Hill surrendered to police around 9 a.m. Thursday after learning a warrant had been issued for his arrest on charges of possession of marijuana, possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was arraigned before District Justice James McMahon and freed on his own recognizance.
4-H Benefit Auction set
MERCER, Pa. -- The sixth annual Mercer County 4-H Benefit Auction will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the 4-H Park on U.S. Route 19, 1.5 miles north of the borough.
The list of sale items runs from restaurant gift certificates to jewelry, cheese and even a Lake Ontario fishing trip. All proceeds benefit the 4-H program and park.
Teachers plan vote
EAST PALESTINE -- East Palestine teachers will meet Monday after school to vote on a tentative agreement with the board of education.
Don Carson, spokesman for the 95-member teachers union, said the group met Thursday and discussed the agreement's provisions.
The union had issued a strike notice for 5 a.m. Monday if an agreement was not reached.
Representatives of the teachers union and the school board reached a tentative agreement early Wednesday after 10 hours of negotiations with a federal mediator that began at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Negotiations began May 8 and continued until impasse was declared June 20. Both parties met about six times with a mediator from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service before Tuesday's marathon session.
Accidental shooting
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A 17-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the leg. Police Chief Victor Cubellis said the boy told police he was playing with the automatic handgun when it went off at 12:51 p.m. Thursday in his Halco Drive home.
The bullet went into the boy's left thigh and came out through his calf, Cubellis said. He was treated at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Cubellis said an investigation continues. No charges have been filed.
