HUBBARD -- Donations are being accepted until Oct. 25 for Operation Seat Cover, the Hubbard Area Chamber of Commerce clothing drive.
Residents and businesses are being asked to donate new underwear, socks, sweat pants and shirts, sizes 6-12, for needy elementary schoolchildren. The chamber also is accepting monetary donations to buy shoes.
Assisting with Operation Seat Cover is Girls Scout/Brownie Troop 10 under the leadership of Kathy Stein.
The chamber adopted Operation Seat Cover as a community service project in conjunction with national Make a Difference Day, Oct. 26.
Donations are being accepted at East Hill Florist, Progressive Printing, Steven's Optical, Hair Designs by Lark, and the nurse's office in Roosevelt Elementary School.

Indicted by grand jury
CLEVELAND -- A 63-year-old Newton Falls man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on firearms and drug charges.
Ronald Hacker of 571 state Route 534 is accused of having a 9 mm pistol June 13 after being convicted of trying to "use an explosive to injure a person and property of another" in 1970 and of the sale of marijuana in 1975.
Hacker also is charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Officials approve pactfor union workers
WARREN -- Trumbull County commissioners have approved a contract establishing new pay classifications for 40 unionized employees of the county's Office of Elderly Affairs.
The contract with the mostly part-time members of Teamsters Local 377 sets wages ranging from $7 an hour for home-delivered meal drivers to $7.70 an hour for office staff.
They will receive a 21- to 23-cent hourly raise in the second year of the three-year contract and a guaranteed raise of at least 2 percent the third year.
The contract also calls for employees to begin paying for a portion of their health-care plan.
The old contract expired Aug. 1.
Investigating robbery
NORTH BLOOMFIELD -- The Trumbull County Sheriff's Department is investigating the robbery of a 90-year-old man.
Reports state the man was shopping at a store on Parkman Road and left around 4:41 p.m. Wednesday.
When he got to his home on state Route 45, two men pulled in behind him and grabbed him. The men assaulted him and took an unspecified amount of cash, reports said.
The man was treated for injuries at a Warren hospital.
Donations for library
NEWTON FALLS -- Public library trustees accepted several donations from patrons Wednesday, including $3,000 and two bronze statues.
The Ladies Guild of St. Michael Church donated the $3,000, while the children of Maxine Headley donated two bronze statues in her honor.
Trustees also agreed to buy an air-conditioning unit for the library office.
Accused of theft
HERMITAGE, Pa.-- An employee of the Giant Eagle store in Hermitage Towne Plaza has been accused of stealing $40,000 over two years.
Deborah D. Clark, 31, of Grove Street, Greenville, surrendered to authorities Wednesday morning after learning a warrant had been issued for her arrest. She was arraigned on a charge of theft by deception and freed on her own recognizance.
Police say Clark rang up false refunds and pocketed the cash from her register. Store investigators discovered the thefts and called police Sept. 20.
Exhaust fan causes fire
FARRELL, Pa. -- A malfunction in a kitchen exhaust fan caused a fire that routed a Lincoln Avenue family from their home around 6:15 a.m. today, authorities said.
Fire Chief Joseph Santell said Lorenzo Scott, Gabrielle Thomas and their 17-month-old daughter, Zoe, got out of the house safely.
Santell said Thomas was feeding the baby and noticed the lights flickering. She alerted Scott, who found the fire in the attic.
Flames were confined to the area around the fan. Scott and Thomas have no insurance, he said.
