Leetonia beats Southern; Badger falls to East Canton



No. 2-seeded Western Reserve will play Jackson-Milton on Saturday.
LISBON -- Bri Duko had eight points, three assists and 23 sets, while Keri Chepke added eight points and three aces as Leetonia beat Southern Local 15-11, 15-6 in the Division IV sectional at Lisbon High School.
Mallorie Valentine also had three kills and two blocks for the Bears (9-12), who will take on Lordstown, the fourth seed, Saturday at noon.
For the Indians (0-20), Britnie Lutz had seven points and Ashley Bach added 16 sets and an ace.
East Canton 15-15, Badger 10-9
Katy Arick had 11 points and three aces for the Wizards (4-16), who will meet top-seeded Windham Saturday at 1 p.m.
For the Braves (0-19), Allyson Palmer had eight points with an ace, Amanda Blackwell had five assists and five sets, while Katie Brainard had six kills and a block.
Western Reserve 15-15, Lowellville 12-10
Andrea Martin had eight points and three aces, while Katie Harmon was in with 23 assists and 38 sets and Jen White contributed 10 kills and two blocks.
The second-seeded Blue Devils (15-8) will play Jackson-Milton Saturday at 2 p.m.
For the Rockets (4-12), Tami Nero led the way with 10 assists, 40 sets and two aces, Emily Vasilechek had seven digs and Molly Macejko scored nine points.
Div. I
STOW -- Canfield advanced in the Div. I sectional tournament at Stow High by defeating Akron Central-Hower 15-4, 15-11.
Stephanie Jarvis had seven kills, two blocks, six points and two aces for the Cardinals (11-12), while Ginny Naples added 11 assists, five points and three aces and Jill Vertanen six kills, four blocks, three points and one ace.
Canfield will face Twinsburg on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Div. II
BOARDMAN -- Second-seeded Salem (19-4) rolled past Wilson, 15-0, 15-2, in a Div. II sectional semifinal at Boardman High. Sarah Hamilton served 11 points with four aces, while Jill Barry served eight points. Lauren Teal added six kills and one block and Taylor Hendricks four kills and two blocks.
The Quakers will play Liberty, Mooney or Poland Oct. 22 at 8 p.m.
Jenni Karsti and Clarisa Nadal each served one point for Wilson (6-17).
Southeast 15-15, Chaney 4-5
Southeast (10-13), the fourth seed, got nine points and three aces from Kelly Graham. Jen Whiteleather served eight points with three aces, while Lisa Morrison (seven assists), Holly Starr (four kills) and Olivia Weber (three kills) also contributed to the victory.
The Pirates will play Rayen tonight at 7.
For Chaney (7-15), Courtney Williams served four points with an ace, and Jill Kocanyar had five digs and an ace.
Hubbard 15-15, Struthers 1-2
The Hubbard High volleyball team opened its defense of its Division II district title with a win over Struthers.
Nicole Pringle served five points with two aces and added eight assists and five digs for the top-seeded Eagles (23-0). Monika Rajkovicova served eight points and had 11 digs, while Katy Jo Mroski served seven points and had 11 kills.
Also for Hubbard, which will play Niles at 6 p.m. Thursday, Megan Oltman served seven points and Diana Conzett had seven kills.
For Struthers (10-12), Amanda Cavanaugh served two points, while Jacquie Trevis added one block and Nicole Robenolt one kill.
Div. III
LEAVITTSBURG -- Erin Stevens had 18 assists, 12 points and two aces as Girard defeated Hawken 15-1, 15-0 in the Div. III sectional tournament at LaBrae Middle School.
Tealle Hunkus added 13 kills and three blocks and Lee McLane 12 points, one ace and five digs for the top-seeded Indians (20-3), who will play Cardinal on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
