COLUMBIANA COUNTY 2 sue Wellsville McDonald's

The owner of the franchise said her restaurant had nothing to do with the illness of the two women.
LISBON -- Two East Liverpool women who say they became ill after drinking milkshakes at the McDonald's restaurant in Wellsville are seeking more than $25,000 from the fast-food company.
The suit states that Shirley Little and Mona Little, both of Eutaw Avenue, drank strawberry milkshakes at the McDonald's at 10 Lisbon St., Wellsville, on Oct. 21, 2000, and became ill as a result of drinking the milkshakes found to contain a cleaning substance, a component of which also was used to clean the restaurant machinery.
The Wellsville restaurant and the company's corporate headquarters in Oak Brook, Ill., are named as defendants.
In a written statement Tuesday, McDonald's Wellsville franchise owner Danielle Campbell said:
"I have not seen a lawsuit, and it would be inappropriate to discuss it or speculate about the allegations. However, I can tell you that the safety of my food and my customers is my No. 1 priority. Based on the investigation at the time of the incident, we have no reason to believe this has anything to do with my restaurant. I would caution anyone from drawing conclusions without the facts."
The women are seeking compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering and lost wages and expect to assume further expenses. The suit doesn't say if the women are related.
The lawsuit seeks a jury trial and states the defendants were negligent in not assuring the machinery was properly cleaned to not allow any potentially harmful material to be consumed.
