Board approves statement for voters

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Lawrence County Election Board has finally come to an agreement on the wording of an interpretive statement that will be posted for voters about the county government referendum.
County residents will decide Nov. 5 if the county commissioner form of government should be replaced by a part-time county council and a full-time, professional county manager.
Election board members believe the original statement was not clear. They have been working on the new statement for the past three weeks. It will be posted at all polling places and advertised in a newspaper.
The new statement explains to voters that a "yes" vote favors the new form of government and a "no" vote means the voter wants to retain the present form.
In other business, voters are reminded that the last day to apply for an absentee ballot in Lawrence County is Oct. 29. All voted ballots must be received by the county elections office by 5 p.m. Nov. 1.
