Education: Chaney High (1963 graduate), Youngstown State (1968).
Playing history: All-City defensive middle guard at Chaney; collegiate career with YSU.
Coaching history: Assistant for four years under Red Angelo before becoming head coach at Chaney in 1972. In his 17-year tenure, Matey won eight City Series titles. His 1975 team went 10-0. Coached three future NFL players in Matt Cavanaugh, Michael Zordich and Jerry Olsavsky.
Honors: Member of the Chaney High School and Youngstown State halls of fame.
Family: Wife Sherry, daughters Jennifer (30) and Heidi (28) and stepdaughter Terri Myers (28). Sister Nancy and brother Andy. Late brother Bobby coached at Iowa State, Pittsburgh and Texas A & amp;M. A $1,000 scholarship in his name is given each year to Chaney students.
