Lamplighter Award
Pat Vivo of Boardman recently received the Lamplighter Award from the Ohio Chapter of the National Speakers Association, and the award has been named for her.
Vivo, who began her speaking career in the mid-1970s, received NSA's Certified Speaking Professional designation in 1986, served as the Ohio Chapter's president from 1988-90 and is now a member of NSA's board of directors.
The award is given to someone who has been an active chapter member for at least 10 years, set a standard for professional speaking and serves as a mentor and contributor to other members.
Hall of Fame of Nursing
John E. Texter, formerly of Campbell, was honored earlier this month when the Cleveland Clinic announced the first two inductees to its newly established Hall of Fame of Nursing.
Texter, a registered nurse at the clinic the past nine years, was chosen for the award from among several candidates within the clinic's hospital system.
The award honors Cleveland Clinic Health System nurses who show knowledge, dedication and compassion needed to deliver exceptional bedside patient care.
Texter is a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and Cuyahoga Community Collge. He is the son of John and Vera Texter of Campbell.
Alabama leader of year
Erma Floyd, formerly of Youngstown, has been selected as leader of the year for Southeast Division's Leadership Development Association in Alabama. She is one of six nominees for the statewide Leader of the Year Award.
Floyd, a 1969 Youngstown East High School graduate, has worked 18 years as a general clerk for Alabama Power. She is a member of the Alabama Power Service Organization and has been involved in several community activities, including walking in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event in Eufala, Ala.
Floyd also is the Web master for the LDA's Web site. She earned her bachelor's degree from Troy State University in Dothan, Ala., in 1996.
She is the daughter of Frances DeLoach and the late James DeLoach of Youngstown.
DOCTOR
Degree from Case
Amy Elizabeth Cocco, daughter of William and Elizabeth Griffiths of Warren, recently received her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University's School of Medicine in Cleveland.
A graduate of Lakeview High School, Cortland, she earned her bachelor's degree in biology from CWRU and graduated summa cum laude.
A resident of University Heights with her husband, Jonathan, Dr. Cocco is doing her residency in pathology at University Hospital in Cleveland.
