YOUNGSTOWN -- There will be a special meeting to decide the future of the Free Polish Krakusy Society at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Krakusy building, 2205 South Ave.
All current society members are urged to attend the meeting, which will focus on the organization's future as well as the fate of Krakusy Hall.
Union endorsements
CANFIELD -- Atty. Diane Vettori of Canfield, who is running for a seat on the Mahoning County Court bench, has received the endorsements of the Greater Youngstown AFL-CIO Council and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Ohio Council.
Income tax discussion
YOUNGSTOWN -- Fire Chief John O'Neill will discuss the proposed half-percent city income tax increase at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Sheridan Block Watch meeting at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 420 Clearmount Drive.
Taxi driver robbery
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police arrested a suspect Thursday in the armed robbery of an Independent Taxi driver Wednesday evening.
Jermall Dawan Wilson, 18, of St. Louis Avenue, who is charged with aggravated robbery, was arrested as he boarded a northbound WRTA bus on South Avenue at Cameron Avenue.
Patrolman Dan Mikus reported he spotted the suspect there shortly before noon after having heard his description during a police roll call. The taxi driver, who had picked up three teenage males on South Lakeview Avenue, was robbed of $37 when he dropped them off on Chalmers Avenue, police reports say.
Pregnant woman falls
YOUNGSTOWN -- A pregnant 18-year-old told her mother Thursday night that a man put a rifle to her head and pushed her off a second-floor apartment balcony on East Judson Avenue, reports show.
The pregnant woman, though, told police that she fell off the balcony and no one put a rifle to her head. Police confiscated an assault rifle from the apartment. The woman, who was taken to the hospital by private car, returned to the apartment, telling police she didn't want to wait for treatment. At her request, officers called for an ambulance, but the woman refused treatment when it arrived. Forum Health Northside Medical Center said the woman was treated.
Police radios stolen
YOUNGSTOWN -- Six portable police radios and chargers used at Sheridan Elementary School on Hudson Avenue were stolen from the school's main office early today, police said.
Officers checked out the school about 3 a.m. after someone triggered the alarm. They found a window partially open to the main office but no one inside. At least two of the radios are tuned to the police band, which would allow the thief to listen to and interrupt police calls.
Girl Scout fund-raiser
The Lake to River Girl Scout Council is sponsoring a nut snack sale through Oct. 27. Products range from gift packages of deluxe nut products at $6 and $7 to canned snacks priced at $3.50.
All orders will be delivered in time for Thanksgiving.
New this year are the All American Snacks Cookbook for $6, a gingerbread-scented candle, also $6, and two chocolates.

2 Hubbard projects
HUBBARD -- The Ohio Department of Transportation is proposing two projects in the Hubbard area.
One is resurfacing of U.S. Route 62 from the Hubbard city limits at Drummond Avenue to Masury, beginning next fall.
During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2004.
The second project is the replacement of a culvert on state Route 304 in Hubbard Township, just east of Bell-Wick Road. During construction, to begin in the spring, Route 304 will be closed for about three weeks.
Three boys arrested
STRUTHERS -- Police arrested three city boys after they admitted they were banging on doors and used a Halloween mask to pound on a window.
An 80-year-old John Street woman said she was sleeping when she heard banging on her doors between 9:30 and 10:30 p.m. Thursday, city police reports show. A neighbor said the boys with the mask frightened her daughter by pounding on a bedroom window. The boys initially denied involvement but later admitted it after being identified. The boys, ages 12, 14 and 15, face criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct charges.
