Women's golf wins
ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The Youngstown State women's golf team shot a two-day total 670 to defeat Grand Valley St. by one stroke and take first place at the Golden Grizzly Invitational Tuesday.
Lori Hatcher of YSU shot 80-85--165 to place third and Jennifer Grossi tied for 7th with a 168.
The YSU men took seventh place in the same tournament with a score of 969. Oakland won with 910.
Josh Zarlenga was the top Penguin with a 82-79-76--237. David Johnstone took 27th with a 239 (78-82-79).

Lakeview girltabbed by TAC
CORTLAND -- Lakeview senior Heidi Kracker was named Trumbull Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week after leading the Bulldogs to victories over Liberty, Newton Falls and Badger.
The 6-foot middle hitter recorded 17 kills, two blocks and an ace in the three games. She leads the Bulldogs (15-4, 11-2 TAC) in blocks and is second in kills.
Bowling Challengeat Camelot Lanes
BOARDMAN -- The Corporate Bowling Challenge, an invitational event for all Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber members, will be Oct. 17 at Camelot Lanes.
Businesses may field as many teams of three as they wish, with the stipulation that each team have two employees. The $30 fee includes bowling, equipment rental and refreshments. Call (330) 758-6626.
Treymayne Warfield named by SVC
WARREN -- Treymayne Warfield, a senior wide receiver at Warren Harding High, has been named the Steel Valley Conference player of the week.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Warfield had six catches for 98 yards and a touchdown as the Raiders (7-0, 3-0) defeated Boardman 20-19 in double overtime.
Poland, Boardmanqualify for district
POLAND -- The Poland and Boardman High golf teams plus Brad Infante of Austintown Fitch will represent the Youngstown area in the Division I district golf tournament today at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley.
The Bulldogs and the Spartans were among four schools that qualified for the 18-hole district during the 24-team sectional tourney last Wednesday at Seven Hills in Hartville. The other two were Canton GlenOak and Uniontown Lake.
GlenOak won the sectional followed by Boardman, Uniontown Lake and Poland.
There are 16 schools in the district. The top four teams will advance to the state tourney at Ohio State's Scarlet Course.
Poland's team consists of Dan Ramun, brothers John Sweeney and Tom Sweeney, Zach Horvath and Mike Plakosh.
Boardman's squad is comprised of Ari Papadopoulos, Vic Daprile, Brian Mumaw, Craig Soller, Brian Soller, Ryan Smith, Joe Campesi, Andrew Swanson, Ben Nagle, Scott Golubic, Anthony Forde, Tim Morrow, Nick Sainato and Matt Delahunty.
Fitch's DeToroshoots hole-in-one
AUSTINTOWN -- Carla DeToro, a member of the Fitch High School girls golf team, shot a hole-in-one in a match against Poland High at Meander Golf Course on Sept. 26.
DeToro used a 7-iron on hole No. 5.

Bowling tournament
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Bowling Association-sponsored 16th annual Youngstown Masters Tournament is scheduled to start the weekend of Nov. 15 at Hubbard's Bell-Wick Bowl.
The second and third rounds will be Nov. 16-17 at Wedgewood and A-Plus Family Bowl followed by the finals on Nov. 17 at Holiday Bowl.
The cost is $80. The first prize is $1,000 based on 60 entries.
The winner receives a paid entry into the ABC Masters in Reno.
Westminster's Fitzsets kills record
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster College senior volleyball player Suzanne Fitz became the all-time leader in kills at the school.
In a loss to Geneva, the 6-foot-3 middle hitter finished with 1,367 career kills to break the mark of 1,325 set by Heidi Jorgensen (1991-94).
Scialabba wins
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel College sophomore MaryBeth Scialabba won the Waynesburg College Cross Country Invitational with a time of 24 minutes, 41.12 seconds in front of the second place runner.
She was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference women's cross country runner of the week for the second time this year.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University will play host to a National Wheelchair Basketball Association Keystone Conference Tournament Oct. 19-20.
