Children hurt at eatery
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two children were injured around 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bobby D's Restaurant on East Midlothian Boulevard when a brick wall at an elevated entranceway collapsed, police said.
A 10-year-old girl was in stable condition and a 21-month-old boy was in critical condition today in St. Elizabeth Health Center. A building inspector was notified and asked that photos be taken by police.
Civic center proposals
YOUNGSTOWN -- Potential civic center project developers will make their presentations to city officials Thursday.
Presentations on downtown arenas, conference centers and hotels will be made by the Waterford Group of Waterford, Conn., at 11 a.m.; Garfield Traub Development of Dallas at 1 p.m.; and the Landmark Organization of Austin, Texas, at 3 p.m.
MG Dove of Carmel, Ind., has told the city its arena-only proposal stands and declined to make a presentation.
Each company will have an hour to make its presentation and about an hour to answer questions from city officials.
The presentations are scheduled for city council caucus room, behind the council chambers on the sixth floor at city hall.
House burglarized
CANFIELD -- A house in the 7900 block of Memory Lane was burglarized Tuesday. Entry was made through a side window, said the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department.
The contents of several drawers in the master bedroom were scattered on the floor and the bed had been moved. A deputy found an empty package of a brand-name ham product on the bedroom floor. The homeowner said the thief apparently took the ham from the refrigerator and gave it to the family's large dog.
A neighbor reported seeing two vehicles not common to the street. A variety of items were stolen from the house, including a DVD player, CD player, microwave, drills, tools, leaf blower, 25-inch TV, bronze football cards, a stereo, computer and camera.
Austintown theft
AUSTINTOWN -- Electronic equipment was stolen from a Notre Dame Avenue home during a burglary Tuesday morning. Stolen items included a television, camera, two DVD players and two video game systems. Police said the thieves entered the home by cutting through a screen and removing a front window.
Voting machine demo
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield Township residents can get a hands-on demonstration of the new electronic voting machines that will be used for the first time in Mahoning County at the November election.
County elections board personnel will be at the township trustee meeting at 8 tonight at the township building, 3475 E. South Range Road.
Bookstore encounter
BOARDMAN -- Wardell Langston, 45, of Gladstone Avenue, Campbell, faces misdemeanor assault and public indecency charges after his arrest on allegations that he exposed himself and ejaculated on a woman in the Barnes & amp; Noble Bookstore on Boardman-Poland Road.
Township police reports show the 29-year old Boardman woman told officers she was looking at books about 11:45 a.m. Saturday when the encounter occurred.
Campbell police arrested Langston about 4 p.m. Tuesday at his home. Boardman officers picked him up at the Campbell station and he was released on $2,000 bail, pending a hearing Thursday in Mahoning County Court here.
Robbery charge
BOARDMAN -- A Youngstown man who police said tried to walk out of the Gabriel Bros. Department Store, Boardman-Poland Road, wearing a pair of $50 shoes, faces charges of felony robbery and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Officers said that upon his arrest, at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday they found a loaded handgun in the coat of Darell Anderson, 22, of Norwood Avenue. With him was a 15-year-old girl who tried to steal a pair of $7 shoes, police added. The girl faces a misdemeanor theft charge.
