PREP SOCCER Willis leads Mooney; Fitch blanks Lake



The Howland and Champion girls teams also posted wins.
STRUTHERS -- Kellie Willis scored two goals as the Cardinal Mooney High girls soccer team topped Middleburg Heights Midpark 2-1 Saturday at the Valley Sports complex.
Colleen Zajac of the Cardinals had an assist and keeper Adrianne Detesco had 12 saves.
Midpark (12-2) is ranked in the top 10 of this week's coaches poll.
Fitch 4, Uniontown Lake 0
UNIONTOWN -- Danielle Storey and Jodi Bowlen each had a goal and an assist to lead Fitch (10-1-3) to its eighth shutout of the season.
Amanda Sprowl and Rachel Blazak each added a goal while Kelly Croysdale produced two assists.
Fitch goalie Kristi Brendlinger made three saves.
Lake (4-11) goalkeeper Kathy Stuck made 14 saves.
Howland 2, Stow 1
STOW -- Darcy Quinlan's goal on an assist from Barbie Lewis with about 18 minutes remaining netted Howland (7-2-4) the verdict.
Erin Gilmour scored for Howland on an assist from Quinlan in the first half, which was tied at 1-1. Alex Kelly scored Stow's goal.
Goalie Amy Cornicelli made seven saves for Howland while Stow (7-4-2) goalie Emily Leonard made 13 saves.
Champion 3, Badger 0
KINSMAN -- Krista Andamasaris scored two goals and Beth Dawson netted the other for Champion (8-3-2, 4-2-1 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Andamasaris, Jenna Lee and Jamie Granata each had an assist. Golden Flashes goalkeeper Liz Wood made four saves while keeper Elizabeth Smith made 16 saves for Badger.
Boys
MINERVA -- Kyle Buchannan and Matt Murphy scored second-half goals for Minerva, as the Lions' boys soccer team rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Chaney 2-1.
Nick Kockler scored Chaney's goal on an assist by Adam Garcia. Sabrina Crincic made four saves for Chaney (8-5). Matt Valentine made 11 saves for Minerva (6-9).
Fitch 0, Walsh Jesuit 0
AUSTINTOWN -- Neither team was able to get a good scoring opportunity in the finely-played defensive battle. Walsh Jesuit (7-1-5) entered the game ranked No. 4 in the state in Division II.
Fitch (10-4-1) goalie Pat Passewitz delivered 12 saves.
Walsh Jesuit goalie Adam Sleyzak had eight saves.
