OCTOBER PLANS | Awareness activities



The Mahoning Valley American Cancer Society has planned several events during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Oct. 12, 19 and 26: From 1 to 3 p.m., a television personality from WFMJ-TV and a staff person or volunteer from the American Cancer Society will provide free information and materials about breast cancer and local ACS programs at a table in the Eastwood Mall in Niles.
Oct. 12: Breast cancer survivors will release more than 100 pink and white balloons, and Brenda M. Rider, a breast cancer survivor, will perform "Rainbow of Ribbons," a song she wrote about surviving cancer. Linda Stickelmeyer, RN/ONC from the Center for Breast Health, will speak. The event is free and open to the public.
Oct. 17: Bingo for a Cure, an event sponsored by breast cancer support groups involved in the Mahoning Valley ACS Relays for Life, Henn Workshops and WYTV Channel 33's "Good Morning Youngstown," is at 6 p.m. at Antone's Banquet Centre & amp; Gourmet Catering. Tickets are $20 per person and limited to 300. Included with each ticket are 10 bingo cards, hors d'oeuvres and refreshments. A Chinese auction and raffles are scheduled.
All of October: A Pink Ribbon Campaign to promote breast cancer awareness and detection in several stores at the Eastwood Mall. The stores will distribute pink cloth ribbon lapel stickers and place stickers on manikins at their stores. For more information, call (330) 533-0546 or (888) 227-6446.
