PEACE AT HOME
PEACE AT HOME
Stopping the violence
Peace at Home, a two-hour domestic violence-education program, was founded in November by Mahoning County Court Judge Loren Popio. It features presentations by a previously abused woman and a police officer, as well as a video about domestic violence. Program facts:
WHEN: 7-9 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month.
WHERE: Canfield Municipal Building.
WHAT: Peace at Home is offered in conjunction with a drunken driving prevention program managed by the local chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Judge Popio stressed that the program is designed to prevent domestic violence by educating potential abusers about the consequences of their actions.
WHO: Drunken-driving offenders who are sentenced to MADD's DUI program also must take part in the Peace at Home program. Judge Popio said about 700 people have taken part in the program since it was first held in January.
