ICL ROUNDUP Ridge pulls out 14-7 win at J-M



South Range and McDonald posted league victories.
NORTH JACKSON -- Steve Velte scored on a 55-yard run with 36 seconds remaining to lift the Mineral Ridge High football team to a 14-7 victory over Jackson-Milton Friday in the Inter-County League.
Velte finished the game with 55 yards rushing on two carries.
Levi Leigh added 52 yards rushing on 13 carries for the Rams (5-2, 3-1), who are the No. 10 team in this week's computer playoff ratings for Division V, Region 17.
Dave Cross scored Mineral Ridge's other touchdown on a 1-yard run in the first quarter.
Zach Kosa led Jackson-Milton (2-5, 2-2) with 84 yards rushing on 16 carries.
Zack Nicholas scored the Bluejays' touchdown on a 13-yard run.
South Range 34, Mathews 0
NORTH LIMA -- The Raiders (4-3, 2-2) did their damage with a rushing attack that produced 322 yards.
Leading South Range were Ryan Maxwell (12 carries, 89 yards, one TD), Ben Johnston (five carries, 72 yards, two TDs), Jed Chismar (nine carries, 58 yards, one TD) and Brian Novak (five carries, 39 yards, one TD).
Mathews' record is 1-6, 0-4.
McDonald 21, Western Reserve 12
BERLIN CENTER -- Tyler Stanley and Greg Gustovich each rushed for more than 100 yards for McDonald (3-4, 2-2).
Stanley gained 149 yards on 22 carries while Gustovich had 112 yards on 24 carries. Stanley's 25-yard touchdown gave McDonald a 7-0 lead.
Gustovich's 10-yard run made it 14-0 in the first quarter.
Western Reserve (2-5, 0-4) scored touchdowns in the second and third quarter.
Luke Srock's 25-yard run cut the lead to 14-6 while Chris Fountain's 25-yard run made it 14-12. Srock was Western Reserve's leading rusher with 35 yards.
Bobby Ovesny's 2-yard run gave McDonald some breathing room, 21-12.
