EAST PALESTINE Library seeks patrons 10-18 to join junior friends group
Young volunteers will encourage their peers to use the library.
EAST PALESTINE -- The East Palestine Memorial Public Library staff is forming a library advocate group for its younger patrons.
Lisa Rohrbaugh, library director, said the library has had a successful group of adult volunteers for several years known as the Friends of the Library.
Members of the Junior Friends of the Library will be patrons 10 to 18 who want to encourage their peers to use the library.
Rohrbaugh said the junior group will also assist the adults in fund-raisers for the library, such as the annual book sale.
Rohrbaugh said the library has a teen council that meets monthly at the library to discuss issues relevant to teens. The group has been meeting for about two years.
Some of the teen council members have already joined the junior friends.
Volunteers essential
Library volunteers are essential to the library's success, Rohrbaugh said. Even some adults don't know all the services libraries offer their communities.
All the money raised by Friends of the Library goes directly to library services, Rohrbaugh said.
She said she used a recent donation of $800 to pay for library programs and buy a cabinet to store compact discs.
Rohrbaugh said a party is in the works during the holidays for the adult and junior friends to meet and share ideas.
There are no dues for either the Friends of the Library or the junior friends, Rohrbaugh said.
A membership form is available at www.east-palestine.lib.oh.us.
