MASSILLON -- Gina Peretti and Stephanie Berry of Boardman High won three doubles matches in the Division I sectional tennis tournament Thursday at Jackson Community Park.
In the opening round, Peretti and Berry defeated Shilpi Khetarpal and Christine Vogelgesang of North Canton Hoover, 6-0, 6-2.
The Spartan duo defeated twin sisters Stephanie and Melanie Zimmerman of Perry, 6-0, 6-1, in the second round, and topped Lauren Conway and Jennifer Pleska of Wooster, 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
"It was a great day for the girls," said Boardman coach Jeff Hammerton. "They were challenged a little in the first round but worked well together and played solid tennis.
"It was important for us to win and survive the first day.
"We go back Saturday to play for a seed and we need to come out of our section with a high seed, because that will get us an important seed for the first round of the district," Hammerton added.
The top four singles players and doubles teams advance to Rocky River for the district next week.
