PREP SOCCER Canfield boys win MAC title for third consecutive season



Poland, Chaney and Fitch posted victories in other action.
SALEM -- For the third consecutive year, the Canfield High boys soccer team is the champion of the Metro Athletic Conference.
Senior Scott Tallam scored twice and five more players had a goal apiece as the Cardinals (10-2-1) blanked Salem 7-0 Thursday.
Scott Seiser had a goal and two assists, Brandon Wolf added a goal and an assist, while Aaron Bestic, Matt Pietro and Dave Piersante each had a goal and Julian Donofrio had two assists for Canfield.
Poland 2, Niles 1
POLAND -- Sean O'Halloran and Nate Smith each scored a goal for the Bulldogs (4-6-1, 4-3-1 MAC). D.J. Peters added an assist and Josh Pridon had seven saves.
Chaney 5, Warren Harding 3
YOUNGSTOWN -- Adam Garcia scored two goals, one in the first half, one in the second, for the Cowboys (8-5). Terrance Phelps assisted on both goals.
Dwin Moran, Mike Pero and T.J. Kloppa each scored a goal for Chaney. The Cowboys, who led 3-0 at halftime, out-shot the Raiders 15-8.
Danielle Beveridge and Pero had an assist apiece. Keeper Sabrina Crincic had five saves.
Thoma Karimc paced the Raiders (1-7-2) with two goals and Omar Omar scored the other one. Dante Pennachio had two assists. Goalie Jonathan Penman had nine saves.
Fitch 2, Lake 0
UNIONTOWN -- Anthony Colaluca and Sam Camens scored goals and Ryan Puskas added an assist for Fitch.
Brent Sopko had four saves and Pat Passewitz added six saves for the Falcons (10-4), who out-shot Lake 12-10.
Howland 2, Boardman 0
HOWLAND -- Jeff Copp and Sam Mann each scored a goal for the Tigers (8-3-3). Neil Clagett and Elliot Lonsdale had an assist apiece. Goalkeeper Jonathan Airhart had nine saves.
Columbiana 5, Carrollton 1
COLUMBIANA -- Barry Kimpel and Exe Martinez Taylor scored two goals apiece for the Clippers (13-2). Brad Bancroft added the other one. Kimpel had two assists and Ryan Schmidt one. David Cramer, goalie, had seven saves, including two on penalty kick attempts.
United 3, Louisville 1
HANOVERTON -- Sarah Fowler, Austin Dangler and Ben Stryffler scored a goal apiece for the Golden Eagles (5-7-1).
Brock Volio and Fowler each had an assist.
United had 31 shots on goal, compared to 19 for the Leopards. Evan Egli had 10 saves for the Golden Eagles.
Girls
NEWTON FALLS -- Junior forward Jessica Kausits scored three goals and sophomore Tiffany Walsh added another as Ursuline defeated Newton Falls 4-1.
Senior Pam Mackos and sophomore Bridgette Celio had assists for the Irish (8-5).
Sophomore Allie Fetterolf scored for the Tigers (5-6).
Girard 4, Badger 0
GIRARD -- Jenny Sopkovich had two goals and an assist and Heather Martin and Tiffany Biss also scored for Girard (7-6-1).
The Indians have won five of their last six games.
Angela Dipiero had five saves for the Indians. Liz Smith had 16 saves for Badger (1-11-1).
St. Thomas Aquinas 2, West Branch 0
BELOIT -- Stephanie Hunt and Andrea Thoma scored goals for St. Thomas, which out-shot West Branch 13-9.
The Warriors fell to 4-6-3.
