WARREN -- Councilman John Homlitas, D-3rd, will meet with 3rd Ward residents at 9 a.m. Saturday at Atlantic Street Northeast and Adelaide Avenue Northeast.
"Council will be formulating a street repaving program this fall, and since the taxpayers and users will ultimately pay for it, I want to hear their thoughts and ideas," he said.
Crop Walk is Sunday
ORANGEVILLE -- Northeast Trumbull County Cooperative Ministry is sponsoring a 10-kilometer Crop Walk at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The walk will begin and end at Orangeville United Methodist Church and a portion of the proceeds will be used for area food pantries.

WARREN -- Councilwoman Susan Hartman, D-7th, will meet with residents at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Secrest Elementary School, Bennett Street Northwest.
Warren woman bestof 42 artists in show
SHARON, Pa. -- The Valley Arts Guild will open its All Media Fine Arts Exhibit with a public reception from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the guild studio at 10 Vine Ave. The show features the work of 42 artists and will run until Nov. 1.
Salli Kowalski of Warren won Best of Show for her piece "Food for Thought." First place went to Cassandra Barr of Sharon for "The Last Ride"; second place went to Ellie Steines of West Middlesex for "Falling In Love Again"; and third place went to Susan Jacobs of McDonald for "Full Bloom."
The guild is open from noon to 4 p.m. Mondays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Tuesday through Friday. It will also be open from noon to 4 p.m. tomorrow.
Police: Woman usedtree switch to beat boy
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 10-year-old boy who got Fs on his schoolwork was beaten with a tree switch by his aunt and has 21 welts on his back, legs, buttocks, feet and arms, police said.
Police arrested Gloria J. Jenkins, 47, of West Glenaven Avenue, on charges of domestic violence and child endangering. She was held in the county jail overnight pending arraignment.
The boy told police the beating took place Thursday after his aunt found the school papers he'd hidden. She broke one tree switch on him then sent him outside for another, reports show. Once outside, the boy ran down West Warren Avenue.
A concerned citizen who heard the boy's screams pulled him from the street and took him to Calvary Towers on Market Street.
The boy told police his aunt has beaten him in the past with extension cords. Jenkins is guardian for the boy and his 12-year-old sister. Children Services took both.
Boy lunges at teacher
YOUNGSTOWN -- A West Elementary School boy lunged at his teacher and tried to choke her Thursday when she refused him access to the candy jar given to pupils who had the folder in class she required.
The boy didn't have his folder.
When the teacher removed the candy jar to the hallway, the 11-year-old climbed a bookcase and jumped on the teacher's chest when she re-entered the classroom, reports show.
The boy was sent home before the arrival of police. His mother was advised of the situation.
Rescue Mission benefit
CANFIELD -- The second annual benefit Ride for Rescue and Family Fun Festival for the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at McMahon Hall at the Mahoning County Experimental Farm and on the adjacent MetroParks Bike Trail.
The event, featuring food, games, a dunk tank, bounce house, sumo wrestling and prizes, is being held in cooperation with Mill Creek MetroParks.
