Event at YSU brings cancer survivors, supporters together
Above, sisters Nancy Crobley, left, and Betty Byram, both of North Jackson, carry a banner during the "Light the Night" walk sponsored by the Northern Ohio Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on the Youngstown State University campus. Crobley and Byram were leading their "Kayleigh's Kause" team Thursday along the walk route to honor 3-year-old Kayleigh Kause of North Carolina and their sister Dawn McCoy. Both died of leukemia. At left, Bailey Conley, 3, of East Liverpool, mom Staci Conley, left, and grandmother Carol Augustine walk in memory of their grandfather, father and husband, Robert Augustine of McDonald, who died more than 12 years ago from leukemia. About 300 people raised about $25,000 for the local chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Each participant carried a lighted balloon -- red for supporters, white for survivors -- through the YSU campus. It was the first such walk in Youngstown.
