NORTH JACKSON -- The Lordstown High School volleyball team will begin its match at Jackson-Milton Saturday at 11 a.m. with the varsity players playing after the junior varsity.
Rodgers at Earich
WARREN -- Bill Rodgers, a four-time winner of the Boston Marathon, will attend the Sam Earich Cross Country meet at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds Saturday.
Runners from 41 schools are expected with action getting under way at 9 a.m.
TAC selects two
The Trumbull Athletic Conference volleyball coaches selected Traci Hassell of Hubbard and Whitney Keyser of Lakeview as co-players of the week.
Hassell is a 5-foot-9 junior and has been a starting setter for the past two seasons. In six matches, she had 71 assists, 24 blocks, 37 digs and six aces. Her blocking and defensive play was a key to winning the Hubbard Classic.
Keyser, a 5-8 junior outside hitter, is a three-year starter for Lakeview. Keyser had 33 kills, 29 digs, five blocks and served 19 points with six aces for the week.
Springfield winsICL championship
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The Springfield High boys golf team won the 2002 Inter-county League championship with a 20-5 record. Mathews was second with 17-8 mark and was followed by South Range, 16-9; Jackson-Milton, 15-10; Western Reserve, 6-19 and Lowellville 0-25.
E. Palestine's Jones qualifies
RAVENNA -- Senior Scott Jones of East Palestine qualified for the Division II state golf tournament next week when he fired 37-36--73 in the district tournament at Windmill Lakes course Tuesday.
Andre Davisguest of fan group
GIRARD -- Cleveland Browns wide receiver Andre Davis will be the guest of the Ohio Browns Boosters on Oct. 14 at the Creekside Golf Dome. Davis will visit from 6-7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

R.J. Bowers waived
BEREA -- The Cleveland Browns waived fullback R.J. Bowers from their active roster on Wednesday and dropped offensive lineman Kaulana Noa from the practice squad.
The club also signed rookie offensive lineman Chad Beasley to the active roster.

COLUMBUS -- Rick Nash, the overall No. 1 pick in last summer's NHL draft, had a goal and two assists as the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the New York Rangers 4-1 Wednesday night in an exhibition game.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- Jaromir Jagr and Chris Simon scored in the third period and the Washington Capitals beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 in an NHL exhibition game Wednesday night.
Huggins transferred
CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati basketball coach Bob Huggins was transferred to Christ Hospital in Cincinnati as he recovers from a heart attack. Huggins had surgery to implant a metal mesh stent to keep a clogged artery open.

MILWAUKEE -- Jerry Royster was fired as manager of the Milwaukee Brewers, three days after the team completed the first 100-loss season in franchise history.

* FOXBORO, Mass. -- The New England Revolution reached the MLS semifinals for the first time, beating the Chicago Fire 2-0 Wednesday night on goals by Brian Kamler and Taylor Twellman.
* DALLAS -- Mark Chung scored in the first minute of the series tie-breaker to give Colorado a 2-1 victory over Dallas and its first berth in the semifinals since 1997.
