SHARON Not pennies from heaven -- $2 bills from Winner rooftop

Money and discount certificates will rain down in Sharon.
SHARON -- Businessman James E. Winner Jr. has found a use for some of those $2 bills that the American public doesn't seem to want.
He's going to toss 500 of them off the roof of the four-story Winner department store at 32 W. State St. at 10 a.m. Saturday.
In fact, he's going to do it at the same hour every Saturday in October as a fall promotion for the Winner properties in the Shenango Valley.
In addition to the U.S. currency, Winner will have $4,000 in "Shop Sharon Money," also in $2 denominations, thrown off the roof at the same time.
Those certificates can be used to get discounts in any of the Winner property stores. In addition to the department store, those properties include Donna's Diner, Winner Collectibles, Flamingo Rose Gift and Tea House, Buhl Mansion and Spa, the Radisson Hotel and Tara, A Country Inn.
Sharon Mayor David O. Ryan said Winner first contacted him about the idea in June.
He said the city will block off State Street from Shenango Avenue to Porter Way to allow people to gather for the money drop. It's a promotion for the downtown business district and the city will support it, he said.
