FIRESTONE PARK City to seek bids for fixes

COLUMBIANA -- City Manager Keith Chamberlin will seek bids for renovation of the restrooms at Firestone Park stadium.
Park board members at Tuesday's city council meeting asked council to make funds available to complete financing. They said the restrooms, built in the 1960s, are in poor condition.
Members said the architect's estimate for the work is about $179,000. The park festival committee has earmarked several years' proceeds -- about $15,000 annually -- for the restroom renovation. About $130,000 is available from the festival committee.
The balance is then about $50,000, but the work will probably cost less than the estimate. Park board members said school officials and volunteers are working on school fund-raisers and recruiting volunteer labor to help defray the cost.
Park board members noted the restroom facilities are used frequently not only for Columbiana High School football games, but baseball and softball games, the park festival, the community July 4 celebration and other community events scheduled in the park.
