Baker, Campesi rally Boardman past Irish



Chris Baker got the game-winning goal for a 2-1 decision, after Mike Campesi evened the score.
STRUTHERS -- Chris Baker scored the winning goal with 16 minutes remaining in the first half, as the Boardman High boys soccer team defeated Ursuline 2-1 Tuesday.
Boardman's Joe Campesi made a penalty kick to tie the score at 1-1 with 20 minutes left.
Goalie Evan James had nine saves for the Spartans (5-5-2, 2-1 Steel Valley Conference). Ursuline is 3-8-2, 0-3.
Maplewood 4, Chaney 1
YOUNGSTOWN -- Brian Hivick scored three second-half goals after the teams battled to a 1-1 tie at the half. Ronaldo Smith scored a goal and Jeremy Mohorick and Jon Arnio had assists for the Rockets (8-2).
Adam Garcia scored off an assist from T. J. Klopta for the Cowboys (7-5).
Crestview 1, United 1, tie
HANOVERTON -- Goals by Crestview's Jonathan Kinkead and United's Brock Volio forced the tie.
Crestview goalie Chad Vollnogle made 11 saves, while United goalie Evan Egli made nine saves. United (4-7-1) out-shot Crestview (10-3-1) 18-13.
Mercer 6, Sharpsville 0
MERCER, Pa. -- Mike Sankey scored three goals for the Mustangs (8-2-2, 7-1-2 Mercer County Athletic Conference).
Jamie Kelley, Tony Zigo and Dallas Boughter also each had a goal.
Canfield 4, Niles 1
NILES -- Matt Pietro scored the first goal of the game on Aaron Bestic's assist. Frank Turocy scored the second goal of the game on Scott Seiseer's assist. Scoring unassisted goals were seniors Scott Seiser and Julian Donofrio. Sophomore Nate Mang scored the lone goal for Niles on a free kick. Keeper Brian Ricks had eight saves.
Girls
SALEM -- Sarah Mangiarelli scored two goals as Howland defeated Salem 5-0.
Also scoring goals were Darcy Quinlan, Barbie Lewis and Erin Gilmour. Lewis and Anastasia Filippidis had two assists, while Quinlan had one for the Tigers (6-2-3, 3-1-2 Metro Athletic Conference).
Howland keepers Quinlan, Filippidis and Amy Cornicelli each had one save.
Girard 3, Bristol 0
BRISTOLVILLE -- Jenny Sopkovich had two goals and an assist, while Krista Kirkpatrick had a goal and an assist for the Indians (6-6-1).
Bristol (7-4-1) fell behind 3-0 at the break.
Hubbard 3, Champion 0
CHAMPION -- Jami Duvall scored two goals and Anna DeJulio added the other for the Eagles (11-2-0). Duvall also had an assist.
Lynle Cornell, keeper, had eight saves. Hubbard had 24 shots on goal, compared to eight for the Golden Flashes.
Liz Wood, goalie, had 14 saves for Champion.
