DIVISION II FINAL Chaminade-Julienne bags first state crown

Javon Ringer set a rushing record for a Division II championship game in a 41-26 win over Nordonia.
MASSILLON (AP) -- Javon Ringer rushed for 251 yards and four touchdowns as Dayton Chaminade-Julienne won its first state championship by beating Macedonia Nordonia 41-26 Friday in Division II.
In a match-up of first-team All-Ohio running backs on teams that had never won a state title, Ringer and the Eagles (14-1) won easily.
Ringer set a Div. II title game rushing record with just 15 carries. The two teams combined for 594 rushing yards, also a Div. II record.
The Eagles shut down Dan Macon, also a first-team All-Ohio pick, holding him to 32 yards on 12 carries.
But Nordonia had no answer for Ringer, who repeatedly bounced off tacklers and outran defenders on three long touchdown runs.
Good ground gainers
Tom Stockle led Nordonia with 137 yards on 27 carries. Ben Batton had 120 yards on 14 carries.
The Knights (13-2) turned the ball over five times, including twice inside the 10-yard line. Chaminade-Julienne also had four turnovers.
After the Eagles took a 21-7 halftime lead, Nordonia relied on Stockle to move down the field in the third quarter. After the Knights moved to the three, Stockle took over for Matt Ruhl at quarterback and scored on an option to the left. The extra point was missed, making it 21-13.
Chaminade-Julienne answered quickly, and Nordonia was never able to mount a serious challenge after that.
70-yard run
On the second play after the kickoff, Ringer took a hand-off up the middle, broke free and scored on a 70-yard run to make it 27-13.
Nordonia made the first punt of the game with 3:39 left in the third quarter. Ringer ended the Eagles' drive just over a minute later with a 59-yard scoring run.
Ringer scored his first touchdown with 11:55 to play in the first half to give the Eagles a 14-0 lead. He added a TD in the fourth quarter.
The Knights got on the board with 6:32 left in the first half. Despite having Macon in the backfield, the Knights pounded away with Stockle, who capped a drive with a 3-yard run to cut it to 14-7.
Chaminade-Julienne answered within minutes with Anthony Turner's 21-yard scoring pass to Kevin Sanford, making it 21-7.
