CAMPUS NOTES In the spotlight



YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY
The Dana Saxophone Quartet won first place at the State Of Ohio Music Teachers National Association's Collegiate Chamber Music Competition this month in Cincinnati. Members are sophomore Greg Pflugh of Vandergrift, Pa., senior Durk Hutmacher of Beloit and graduate students Allen Cordingley of Los Lunas, N.M., and Angel Negrin of York, Pa. Their coach is Dr. James Umble, a YSU music professor.
The group will go to the Midwest regional competition in Columbus in January to compete against five other quartets.
NORTHEASTERN OHIO UNIVERSITIESCOLLEGE OF MEDICINE
Dr. C. William Keck, director of NEOUCOM's Division of Community Health Sciences, received the Sedgwick Memorial Medal at the American Public Health Association's annual meeting in Philadelphia. The award is the association's highest honor and recognizes a public health official who has demonstrated distinguished service in the advancement of public health knowledge and practice as an administrator, leader, educator, mentor, advocate and policy-maker. Keck, of Akron, also serves as director of the Akron Health Department.
MOUNT UNION COLLEGE
Karla Devlin of Youngstown was selected for the 2002 Psi Chi National Honor Society in psychology. Devlin, a 1999 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, is a psychology major and a member of Alpha Chi Omega and Gamma Sigma Alpha.
CUMBERLAND COLLEGE
Sophomore Kourtney Howard of Youngstown, a member of the college's Speech and Debate Team, received four speech awards at the Washington University Gateway Tournament in St. Louis, Mo. Howard placed second in dramatic interpretation, programmed oral interpretation of literature and in informative speaking, and third in prose interpretation of literature.
OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY
Krystyne M. Evans, daughter of James and Dianalyn Evans of Boardman, was selected for the ONU cheerleading squad for the 2002-03 academic year. The squad cheers for football and basketball games. Evans is a third-year pharmacy major.
WOOSTER COLLEGE
Jameson Rehm, an Ursuline High School graduate, is a member of the College of Wooster Jazz Ensemble. A sophomore, Rehm plays guitar. He is the son of David and Barbara Rehm of Cortland.
