Trial reset for Feb. 10

LISBON -- A Feb. 10 trial date is set for a Knox Township man charged with aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder.
Gregory Doak, 45, of Knox School Road, was to have gone on trial Dec. 9 in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.
But Judge David Tobin of common pleas court agreed Wednesday to postpone the trial at the request of defense Atty. Chris Amato of Wellsville.
Judge Tobin also authorized a second mental evaluation of Doak, which Amato also requested.
The delayed trial date will allow time for the second mental exam.
A first examination indicated that Doak is competent to stand trial.
The second exam will be done by a different agency at Amato's request. It will weigh Doak's competency and his sanity, Amato explained.
Doak, who is being held in the county jail, has pleaded innocent by reason of insanity to both the crimes of which he's accused.
He is charged in the April 7 shooting death of Teresa Stoffer, 42, of Knox Township.
Stoffer was a friend of Doak's estranged wife, Angela, 39, also of Knox Township.
Doak also is accused of attempting to kill his wife.
He faces a maximum life sentence if convicted of aggravated murder and a 10-year maximum term if convicted of the attempted aggravated murder.
