PREP BASKETBALL Newton Falls downs Warren JFK in overtime



Western Reserve improved to 3-0 with a win over Southern.
WARREN -- Bolting from a 48-all tie at the end of regulation, Newton Falls scored four straight points and defeated Warren JFK 54-53 in overtime in a girls basketball game Monday.
Desiree Sterling scored 21 points for the Tigers (1-0).
Krystal Naples scored 16 points and Aarika Knepp had 14 points for JFK (0-1).
Ashtabula Edgewood 60,Lakeview 58
CORTLAND -- Jeniffer Hadlock made a 3-point basket with six remaining for Edgewood, which won its second straight game.
Hadlock and Pam Dreslinski paced the winners with 17 points apiece. Britni Morello led the Bulldogs (0-3) with 14 points. Elise Franco chipped in with 13 and Christina Martina finished with 12.
Maplewood 44, Brookfield 41
BROOKFIELD -- Samantha Schwartz took scoring honors with 19 points to pace Maplewood (1-1)
Holly DeMay led the Warriors (0-1) with 16 points and Kaitlyn Naci finished with 10.
Mineral Ridge 63, Lordstown 22
LORDSTOWN -- Dariana Casado fired in 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Sarah Stark added 11 and had five steals for the Rams (2-0).
Jennifer Bennett paced the Red Devils with five points and she pulled down five rebounds.
Lowellville 61, Lisbon 40
LOWELLVILLE -- Dani Hvisdak took scoring honors with 20 points in the Rockets' opener. Dana Donatelli grabbed 12 rebounds and Tami Nero had nine assists.
Kelly Flory sparked the Blue Devils (0-2) with 15 points.
Western Reserve 83, Southern 14
BERLIN CENTER -- Jen White scored 18 points, Anna Marie Ricciardi 17, Mikah Berger 10 and Jen Hallos and Tonijo Moracco nine each, and the balanced attack enabled Western Reserve to romp to victory.
White and Ricciardi also had seven rebounds each for the Blue Devils (3-0).
Emilee Weeda had five points and Brittany McElroy five rebounds for Southern (0-1).
Columbiana 67, Southington 46
SOUTHINGTON -- Stevie Goist tallied 22 points while Carly Washinko hit 15, as Columbiana made 26-of-49 from the field to sail past Southington in the first game of the season for both teams.
Washinko and Cara Hardenbrook each had six rebounds for the Clippers, who broke to a 22-3 lead after the opening period.
Southington, led by Rebecca Derr's 23 points, rallied to within 37-26 at intermission, but Columbiana used a 19-12 to pad its advantage.
