AUSTINTOWN -- Robert A. Buila, 25, of Tippecanoe Road, Canfield, is free on $10,000 bond after arraignment Monday in Mahoning County court on a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide. Judge David D'Apolito set the bond and a preliminary hearing for 1 p.m. Dec. 23. Buila is charged in the death of Samuel Charles, 37, of Main Street, Mineral Ridge. The crash happened on state Route 11 about 3:10 a.m. Nov. 16. Charles was ejected after his vehicle was hit from behind.
Sentencing set
CLEVELAND -- Sentencing is set for Jan. 30 for A. David Sugar Sr., a New Middletown contractor who reached a plea agreement with the government in October 2000, admitting that he committed perjury, obstruction of justice and witness tampering in the case against former U.S. Rep. James A. Traficant Jr. Sugar, based on his cooperation, faces 18 to 24 months in prison. Sugar provided false testimony when questioned by the grand jury about whether his Honey Creek Contracting billed and received payment from Traficant for work done at the congressman's 76-acre family farm at 6908 W. South Range Road in Green Township. Sugar also directed his secretary to create fake invoices and mailing dates and told her to misrepresent facts about the phony invoices to the FBI.
Theft reported
BOARDMAN -- A Mathews Road couple told police thieves took thousands of dollars worth of jewelry late Sunday. The 28-year-old woman and 39-year-old man returned home about 3 a.m. Monday to find $10,000 worth of jewelry missing from the apartment.
Possible drug sale
BOARDMAN -- Police are investigating a possible drug sale in the vicinity of Boardman High School. Boardman High School Principal Timothy Saxton told police that a school staff member witnessed the sale of a small plastic bag of marijuana at 2 p.m. Friday near the school. No arrest has been made.
Death threat reported
BOARDMAN -- A threat Sunday evening has landed a township man in jail. A 25-year-old Struthers man told police he was threatened with death by another man. A short time later police arrested John A. Lonardo, 31, of Lowellville on charges of felony aggravated menacing, possession of criminal tools and carrying a concealed weapon. Reports say Lonardo was carrying a loaded handgun.
Man robbed
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are searching for a teen-age boy who robbed a 20-year-old Elm Street man of $350 just after noon Monday. The man told police the boy followed him to his car as he left Petra's Food Store at the corner of Elm and Bissell. The boy indicated that he had a gun and ordered the man to drive several blocks. The boy then took the man's wallet and ordered him to remove his pants and shirt and throw them out the window. The boy then fled on foot.
VFW commander
WASHINGTONVILLE -- Raymond Sisk, national commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be at VFW Post 5532, 575 Walnut St., from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday as part of his statewide visit Thanksgiving weekend. Sisk, expected to address key issues related to veterans and national defense, will be accompanied by Ohio VFW Commander George Durinka of Parma and Chris Taylor of Grover Hill, president of the Ohio VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

WARREN -- Easter Seals of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties will have its annual garage sale extravaganza from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 6-8 at the Ridgeview Plaza, Ridge Road and U.S. Route 422.
