Austintown trustees rent park to Wickliffe group for a dollar
AUSTINTOWN -- Township trustees have unanimously agreed to rent Wickliffe Circle Park in front of the fire station to The Wickliffe Circle Christmas Committee Inc. through Jan. 20 for $1.
Fire Chief Andy Frost reported that the annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at Wickliffe Circle at 7 p.m. Dec. 5. Festivities will begin at 6:45 p.m. with caroling; Santa will arrive around 7:15 p.m., he said.
Frost also thanked the Austintown Fitch Latin Club for donating $125 to the Fire Department in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks Sept. 11, 2001, and to honor local heroes.
Township Administrator Michael Dockry announced that the Fitch High School jazz band will perform the night of the tree lighting ceremony. The band will hold a concert at the school to encourage donations to Toys for Tots, he said.
Also Monday night, trustees approved budget requests of $5,350 for the road department, $1,264 for the police department, $9,044.75 for the fire department, $2,250 for the zoning department, $21,030.02 for the maintenance department, $4,120 for the park department and $16,285.02 for the Mahoning Valley drug task force.
