SPECIAL EVENTS, SEASONS, ETC.The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Watercraft, is offering the Ohio Boating Education Course starting this month. A one-day course version will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 25 at Gander Mountain in Niles (330) 644-2265. The 13-week version will be held starting Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Hubbard High School (330) 534-2677. Then one-day courses cost $5 and the 13-week course is $35. Classes are limited to 20 participants and pre-registration is required. The courses cover trailing, boat handling, rules of the road, legal requirements, aids to navigation, weather, VHF radios, marlin spike seamanship (lines & amp; knots), piloting and personal water craft operation. Successful completion of the course usually entitles participants to a discount on boat insurance.
